After spending an hour wandering around Venice trying to find a different restaurant we settled for La Serenissima, not knowing a thing about it. The service was good and the food was good as well--but it's one of those places that has waiters hanging out in front and trying to usher people inside, which gives off a touristy feel that I don't care for.
We shared a few pasta dishes--one of which was a delicious spaghetti nero alla vongele, a local specialty that uses squid ink to darken the noodles. It was served with a cream sauce and fresh clams. We also shared a plate of mixed fried seafood. This was probably a mistake--it was a huge mound of deep fried calami, shrimp and sardines. It came with lemon but no sauce and was rather plain--plus we were so stuffed at this point that we couldn't even come close to finishing it.
In the end my main complaint is that our meal was rather expensive at 100 euros. However, the staff was nice and if you're a little more careful at ordering than we were I think it's a safe bet. I just wouldn't go out of my way to come here.
